Hi Friends and Fans of Ray! This is his wife, Rhian Ferrer….
Tuesday morning I found Ray in bed having a seizure (he has never had one before) I brought him to the hospital and he is stable but has a massive tumor in/on his brain. He has been in ICU since Tuesday evening. I am hoping to bring him home soon.

For those of you that are awaiting paintings, they will get out. Ray will make sure everything is taken care of once he is back on his feet and home. Let’s hope that is soon.

Laina and her children

How They Grow

My interests in Aromatherapy and Herbology started when my third child was born premature in 2002 with a chromosomal deletion. He was so small at birth. Although he was born only five weeks early, he was the size of a baby born at 28 weeks. He weighed just 2lbs 11oz and was 14 inches long. His weak cry sounded like a little billy goat.  His father passed out in the operating room, because the situation was so shocking. The doctors were in utter silence at the size of him. At that moment when I was told there was something wrong with him, the journey began for my son and me.

The doctors had given me a very grim outlook on my son, Ben’s future. They told me that he would have many health issues, that he might never even walk and could never be a “normal” child.  From that day forward, I knew I had to find the strength within myself to do what I knew was right. I searched for that voice in my heart, the one deep in my soul, that told me there is hope and put all my faith into it.

I refused to give up hope despite the numerous health issues that plagued Ben. By the age of two he was on twelve different medications. At his first birthday he was still only the size of a four month old.  I had been to every specialist my doctors suggested, some offered a new diagnosis or treatment, others had no answer at all.

Through it all, Ben was such a strong soul and spirit, he inspired me to have the same strength of character and faith. I became determined to find a more natural and effective way to care for Ben. After researching and trying some natural remedies, my son’s health improved greatly. I slowly saw his immune system get stronger.  Ben had had trouble with speech and expressing himself, but in time his speech grew and temper tantrums were less. He began to grow at his own pace; by the time he as twenty months old he began to walk. This was incredible to me, because the doctors told me walking would never be a possibility for Ben. Each milestone, renewed my faith and encouraged me to continue my research.

Finally, when he was seven, I was directed to the palce where I find the reason behind Ben’s struggles.  At VCU hospital in Richmond, the doctor did a DNA analysis of Ben’s chromosomes and they discovered he has a small deletion on one of his chromosomes. This deletion has not been detected in anyone else yet, making him the only one with this genetic condition. I am so proud of how hard my son tries everyday to be his best.

Simple tasks for him are challenging but one would never know it.  At twelve years old, he is still small for his age and has week muscle tone and a slight limp.  He is very outgoing and optimistic and has a heart full of love and compassion. He is a fighter and my inspiration everyday. I am so glad he inspired me to find a more natural way to heal the body through herbs, nutrition, and faith. I see this experience as an opportunity to continue learning and sharing information with my family and friends and always remember to never lose hope..

Today, I am a mother of five children with certifications in Aromatherapy and Herbology. I am also working towards a certification in Nutrition. I launched my own small business where I sell natural products and offer consultations based of what my son has taught me. Ben even named my business, Mother’s Nature Store. I am so proud of how far both of us have come since that fateful day in 2002.
