Mint has been used for over 3000 years for its medicinal properties. It is very useful in all types of aliments. Mint can be used in a tea or inhaled or even used on the skin for it healing properties. It is excellent at helping with stomach discomforts such as,colic, nausea and diarrhea. It is a stimulant and a calmative, a disinfectant, and nervine. Peppermint can be used on the body to treat acne( but dilute it in water first), because of its astringent properties. Mint is useful in treatment for bronchitis do to its expectorant abilities, this can be used as a tea or inhaled through steam. Mint also is great for headaches, if you rub peppermint oil diluted in a carrier oil put it on the temples and forehead, or even chew peppermint gum can help a headache. Peppermint and other mints such as spearmint are always thought of as common, but there are many powerful and useful properties to mint . I hope you think of mint as a useful herb, and start to use its powers daily.( Its not just for fresh breath:)
Here are a few easy recipes for some common complaints.
Relax and Recharge: 2 drops Rose and 3 sweet orange 3 drops lavender, mix in to 2 oz carrier oil such as grape seed or olive oil. apply to back of neck, or fore head and pulse points.
Soothing Blend: 2 drops spearmint, 3 lavender drops, 2 drops clary sage, can be mix with 2 oz carrier oil, and applied to pulse points, or 4 oz water in a spray bottle and spray room or body.
Focus Blend: 5 drops lavender, 3 drops rosemary, 2 drops peppermint, mix with 4 oz carrier oil, applied to pulse points. or in a 4 ounce spray bottle with water spray room or body.
Always to a spot test first to make sure you are not allergic to any or the essential oils. I have many more recipes that I will be posting in the future.
